Bernadette DonohoeProgramme Chair of Architectural Design at IT Sligo gives an update on the newest Architecture course in Ireland and the only Architecture course in the West of Ireland, the BA(Honours) Degree in Architecture has been awarded Provisional Approval by the RIAI in line with the RIAI Qualifications in Architecture: Procedures for Prescription under the Building Control act 2007 with the first cohort of students finishing their Level 8, 5 year full-time honours Architecture Degree in 2023. The Architecture Degree builds upon the RIBA Part I Accredited Honours Degree in Architectural Design. Bernadette comments: “Our progressive approach to architectural education builds on an established tradition of delivering undergraduate architectural design programmes for the last 20 years. We aim to empower students with a core belief in the spirit of a region and a desire to make a positive difference.”

Mark StephensRegistered & Chartered Architect with the RIAI and RIBA, Certified European Passivhaus Consultant, Lecturer at IT Sligo & occasional UCD Lecturer was one of the founding signatories of Architects Declare in Ireland. Architects Declare was originally founded in the UK and now has branches across the world, including Ireland. Mark will give an outline on the aims and aspirations of Architects Declare Ireland (www.architectsdeclare.ie) and how you can become involved. 12 Practical steps for Architects from the Irish Green Building Council will also be outlined and a case study project will be shown which aims to fulfill some of these practical steps.
