The Magnificent Seven Churches in Donegal by Liam McCormick – #4 – Burt

After a short break (went to UK to see work by Patrick Gwynne (modernist architect in 30’s-60’s); I’m back now with the 4th Liam McCormick Church of the ‘Magnificent Seven’!

A reminder that the last stop was at Murlog and THIS LINK takes you from Murlog to Burt (reminder you may be coming from a different direction!)

You can read more about St Aengus Church, Burt HERE ON ARCHISEEK and a reminder on the following:

  • Many have made this pilgrimage before and below are a couple of links that give some excellent information on the projects (one of which by the lovely Emma Gilleece):

I would also highly recommend the books ‘Seven Donegal Churches’ by Carole Pollard – available from the RIAI bookshop or if you really have to HERE:

  • Below therefore a few pfew photos from our visit both internally & externally. We tied this visit to a quick visit to Derry (hence the Derry Girls photo):

‘McCormick’s best known Donegal church St Aengus, Speenogue, Burt (1967) was voted Building of the century in a national poll in last few years. This circular church with its distinctive copper clad roof with conical spire was inspired by Grianán of Aileach fort nearby #Donegal’: Thread here by Emma Gilleece

    Possibly my favourite…
