The order of these posts has been a bit haphazard as this US/UK difference is a big one – Framing vs cavity walls
Even with the advantages that timber frame houses have with regards to airtightness, the cavity wall still appears to reign supreme in these parts.

What’s interesting however is that because the software I use (Vectorworks) has US origins there’s stacks of tools that allow me to create wood framing drawings and schedules automatically from my 3D models, as shown in the screen grab below:
