The Americans are like us but they are different #4 – Framing vs cavity walls ( #Vectorworks mentioned)

The order of these posts has been a bit haphazard as this US/UK difference is a big one – Framing vs cavity walls

Even with the advantages that timber frame houses have with regards to airtightness, the cavity wall still appears to reign supreme in these parts.

I’ve written a few posts on this phenomenon (and other ways of building), below are just a few:

Ah the good ol’ Irish cavity wall

A better way of building – Timber frame with sustainable materials

But as the blog post title says; the Americans are different as their predominant construction method is timber framing. For a more detailed explanation of the US framing method, check out the Wikipedia Page on Construction Framing

What’s interesting however is that because the software I use (Vectorworks) has US origins there’s stacks of tools that allow me to create wood framing drawings and schedules automatically from my 3D models, as shown in the screen grab below:

So, if you would like me to help you with your drawings (whether you are a potential client or another designer (using Vectorworks) with either cavity or timber walls, if you are in the UK or US, then why not CONTACT ME…
