It is very rare for me to enter architectural competitions and recently I threw may hat into the ring for the RIBA Room within a Room ‘Ideas’ competition.
Below is an extract from my entry which was a proposal for a ‘Room within a Room’ based on a painting by Antonello da Messina of St Jerome in his Study; sponsored by Norbord OSB, the project had to feature OSB within its construction. Unfortunately I was not one of the ideas shortlisted but the process was enjoyable. My concept was a hollowed pythagorean pyramid with an oblique slice at the apex to provide light and when inverted the apex forms a work station. Each face could then be lowered to provide performance space.

Would I do another competition after constantly saying that I would never do competitions as they were a waste of time? Never say never I guess is the byword.
